Bengals make wonderful pets, whether they are perfect specimens destined for the
show ring, or cosmetically less than perfect in appearance or structure (conformation).
For example, one pink paw-pad will prevent a Bengal from entering the show ring, and
exclude him from a responsible breeding program. The same holds true for lockets
(patches of white hair), tail faults, incorrect eye color, prominant rib bars (stripes), and
a host of other "defects" large and small. These Bengals are designated as Pet
Quality, though usually they are just as beautiful, and will bring as much joy to your
life as a show-quality littermate. Kittens purchased as pets
|
MUST be neutered, and their TICA Registrations will indicate "Not for Breeding".

Show Quality kittens are rare individuals whose pattern and conformation closely
match the TICA Bengal Standard, and are on the cutting edge of developments within
the breed. Showing Bengals is a fiercely competitive pastime, but fun and rewarding
as well. Your show quality Bengal must be outstanding in appearance AND
temperament. He or she must be amenable to handling by strangers, the presence of
many other cats, the stress of travel and strange surroundings. and the noise and
hectic pace of the showhall. All this requires acclimatization and training beyond the
ability or desire of many pet owners.

Breeder Quality kittens are those with most if not all the attributes of a show quality
cat. They may have a small cosmetic flaw which prevents success in the show ring,
but still have many fine qualities to offer in a breeding program. Often, females are
not as unflappable as males when being shown. Some cats are just not as outgoing in
public as they are at home, but this does not affect their breeding potential. Kittens
may be purchased with breeding rights by qualified individuals, and fertility is
guaranteed at 18 months of age.
